Reverend Justin Grimm is the Director for Evangelical Mission, Assistant to the Bishop for Next Generation Ministries in the Saint Paul Area Synod, ELCA
He coordinates congregational development, including new and existing congregations, through the formation of mission strategies that include collaboration among congregations and ministries; assists the bishop and others in mission development of the synod’s Young Adult Initiatives to promote lives of faith and service in the rising generation; works with local synodical leaders in the identification of new mission opportunities; cooperates with ISAIAH and other faith-based organizations to undertake, when appropriate, church-based community organizing to engage congregations and neighborhoods; serves as the staff liaison to the several work groups within the Committee on Public Witness and helps to connect efforts between the work groups and other mission strategies.
Rev Grimm responded when Philando Castile, a cafeteria supervisor at St. Paul Public Schools, was shot and killed by Police. Diamond Reynolds, Castile’s girlfriend live-streamed a video immediately after the shooting in Falcon Heights.
Reynolds said on the video that a police officer had asked Castile for his license and registration. Castile told the officer “that it was in his wallet, but he had a pistol on him because he’s licensed to carry,” Reynolds said. “The officer said, ‘Don’t move.’ As he was putting his hands back up, the officer shot him in the arm four or five times.”
Rev Grimm tells us what the St. Paul Area Synod and the ELCA did to respond after the tragic shooting.
